in-depth journey around Japan especially designed for the independently- minded
traveller. As well as visiting the Geisha districts
of Kyoto and the bright lights of Tokyo, highlights include
a
magical night on the enchanted island of Miyajima and a
day amidst the volcanoes and spas of Beppu.
Elsewhere we explore the old capital at Nara and the
delightful gardens of Okayama
and Kumamoto as well as spending time in the beautiful
harbour town of Nagasaki. Travelling on Japan's
excellent train system the group (maximum size 14) is escorted throughout by an
expert Japanese-speaking leader from the UK. The Oriental Caravan has
been organising escorted tours to Japan since 1997 and is
your perfect guide to unravelling

| Accommodation |
In
Kyoto, Beppu, Nagasaki and Tokyo we stay
in comfortable, tourist class hotels. In
Miyaji we
stay in a traditional, family run minshuku and
on Miyajima island we stay in a
characterful ryokan/guesthouse with
availability of Japanese style
accommodation. Twin share basis. Single
supplement is not compulsory. If required
a single supplement is available at a cost
of £340. |
| Food
and drink |
One dinner and one breakfast
are included in Miyaji. A 'farewell' meal
is also included in Tokyo. Elsewhere, for
reasons of convenience, choice and
flexibility, food is not included in the
price. For most meals the tour leader will be on hand to suggest
restaurants and, if necessary, help
with ordering meals. Although it is possible
to eat more cheaply, and certainly possible
to eat more expensively, most people find
that around £15-25 a day is more than enough.
